Executive Production

Overseeing the production process, Victoria collaborated with the wider project team to deliver the project. From selecting Corey as the central subject to ensuring ethical storytelling practices, the production phase was meticulously planned and executed. This involved location scouting, acquiring necessary releases, and maintaining the integrity of Corey’s journey throughout the film.

Filming and Cinematography

The film was shot across multiple locations, including indoor and outdoor basketball courts, Corey’s home, and a gym. Various techniques, such as dolly shots, tracking, panning, and handheld sequences, were employed to create dynamic visuals. Equipment like Steadicams and DVX cameras allowed for innovative shots, including slow-motion sequences that added depth to the narrative.

Editing and Post-Production

The editing process was integral to shaping the film’s narrative arc. From assembling the storyboard to fine-tuning transitions, it was ensured the story flowed seamlessly. Key moments, such as Corey’s injury and recovery, were emphasised with dramatic pacing and shot-reverse-shot techniques. Adobe After Effects was utilised for title sequences, enhancing the film’s professional finish.

Sound Design and Mixing

Sound played a crucial role in immersing the audience. Diegetic sounds like basketball bounces were layered with a carefully selected soundtrack to evoke emotion. Lapel mics captured Corey’s voice and ambient sounds during key scenes, ensuring clarity and authenticity.

Colour Grading

Given the diverse lighting conditions across locations, meticulous colour grading was essential. A cooler tone was applied throughout, balancing the warmth of LED and fluorescent lights to maintain visual consistency. This attention to detail elevated the film’s cinematic quality.
