In 2021, Mint and Honey was engaged to support the transition of ownership for Little Bread Loaf, a Wellington-based micro-bakery specialising in rēwena bread and baked goods. Providing full-suite marketing and communications management for the business, we undertook a strategic approach to streamline operations, refresh the brand identity, and develop a marketing framework that would position the bakery for growth and expansion. Our work laid the foundation for a seamless ownership transition while setting the stage for long-term success.

Systems and infrastructure

To ensure Little Bread Loaf’s operations were supported by a modern and efficient infrastructure, Mint and Honey focused on implementing scalable systems that streamlined internal processes and improved collaboration. By integrating advanced tools and platforms, we created a cohesive digital ecosystem that aligned with the business’s growth, enabling seamless communication, data management, and operational efficiency.

Google Workspace for Business

To ensure Little Bread Loaf’s operations were supported by a modern and efficient infrastructure, Mint and Honey implemented scalable systems that streamlined internal processes and enhanced customer accessibility. We facilitated the adoption of the Google Business Suite, which included purchasing custom domains, hosting them within Google’s network, and redirecting existing addresses to the new Gmail-powered email platform. Google Drive was introduced as the central shared storage system for business documents and website data, allowing seamless collaboration and data management.

Additionally, we established Google Business Profiles for all store and pop-up locations, optimizing their visibility in local search results. This included ensuring first-place rankings for key terms like “coffee near me,” accurate directions on Google Maps, and updated hours for each location. Menu links were integrated into the profiles to streamline customer access, and we monitored and responded to Google Reviews to maintain a strong online reputation. Website transactions and analytics were synced with Google Sheets, providing a streamlined and integrated system for tracking and reporting. These efforts collectively created a robust digital and operational ecosystem that supported both the business’s growth and its customers’ needs.

Website Design

To modernise Little Bread Loaf’s digital presence, Mint and Honey designed and launched a custom-built website with a suite of user-friendly features. The new website introduced an e-commerce store with a pickup appointment selector and multiple online payment options, replacing the manual processes of bank transfers and in-person payments.

Additional functionalities included an up-to-date events calendar showcasing pop-up market locations, embedded social media feeds, news updates, stockist information, and a contact form linked to a custom domain email. SEO optimisation, mobile responsiveness, and integration with Google Analytics, Search Console, and Google Merchant ensured the site performed efficiently and ranked competitively online.

    Little Bread Loaf already had a strong logo in place but this was further enhanced with the introduction of a contemporary, high-contrast colour palette. This a revitalised visual identity was complemented by bespoke designs tailored for both digital and physical applications, ensuring a cohesive and modern brand presence across all channels.

    Deliverables included digital assets for social media, website, and eDMs, and large-format designs including store window signage, tear-drop banners, outdoor gazebos, car signage, table vinyls, and business cards.

    Through deploying a cohesive and striking visual language, Little Bread Loaf’s brand identity was reinforced, creating a consistent and memorable presence across digital, print, and physical touch points.

        Photography and Videography

        Mint and Honey provided regular on-site visits to Little Bread Loaf sites to capture high-quality imagery and video content specific to Little Bread Loaf’s marketing calendar.

        These assets included professional photography for social media content and product listings on the website as well as lo-fi video content optimised for platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

        This approach ensured a consistent visual narrative while leveraging video-first strategies to engage audiences across channels.

          Social media played a pivotal role in Little Bread Loaf’s marketing strategy, allowing the brand to connect with its audience, drive engagement, and increase sales. Mint and Honey implemented a comprehensive approach that combined organic content creation, community management, and paid social advertising. This multifaceted strategy ensured consistent brand visibility, meaningful customer interactions, and effective promotion of products and events across key platforms. By aligning these efforts, we successfully elevated Little Bread Loaf’s online presence and strengthened its position in the market.

          With only a Facebook page to start with, Mint and Honey established and managed a comprehensive social media presence for Little Bread Loaf across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube. Starting several channels from scratch, we grew the collective following to over 6,000 by prioritising engaging content and community interaction.

          On-site content creation enabled us to adopt a video-first approach, leveraging TikTok and Instagram Reels to drive engagement and reach. This was further enhanced by interactive story features such as quizzes, polls, and behind-the-scenes content, which fostered deeper audience interaction. Additionally, we utilised Meta Stores on Facebook and Instagram to boost online sales through social platforms, until this feature was discontinued in the Asia-Pacific region in 2023.

          community management

          A strong and engaged community is at the heart of any successful social media presence, and this was a key focus for Little Bread Loaf. We placed a strong emphasis on community management, ensuring active engagement with Little Bread Loaf’s audience across all social media platforms. This included promptly responding to comments and messages, fostering meaningful conversations, and building a sense of connection with followers. By addressing customer inquiries and feedback in real time, we enhanced brand trust and loyalty. We also implemented audience-focused strategies such as user-generated content campaigns through story reshares and awarding a ‘Loaf of the Week’ as well as sharing content from other small businesses to broaden reach and deepen relationships with the local community.

          Effective and targeted advertising was a key element of Little Bread Loaf’s marketing strategy, allowing the brand to amplify its reach and drive meaningful results with a strong return on investment. Mint and Honey managed several targeted e-commerce advertising campaigns across the Meta network, strategically aligning these efforts with key holiday periods such as Christmas and Easter to capitalise on increased customer spending.

          Ad creatives featured visually appealing content and compelling calls to action, emphasising limited-time offers and seasonal promotions to encourage immediate engagement. Through this approach, we successfully boosted sales, increased website traffic, and expanded brand awareness across social media.

          eDM

          To enhance and streamline customer communication, Mint and Honey introduced Mailchimp as a mass communication eDM platform for Little Bread Loaf. This platform became a key feature of the brand’s engagement strategy, allowing for targeted and automated interactions with customers. We built a comprehensive database by integrating sign-up forms into the website and automating the onboarding process for customers who made e-commerce purchases. This ensured that new customers were promptly added to the mailing list and welcomed with personalised messages.

          Tailored email journeys were developed to maximise engagement and retention. These included abandoned cart follow-ups, encouraging customers to complete purchases, and automated responses to transactional triggers such as order confirmations and shipping updates. Additionally, we launched periodic ‘Loaf Letters’ to keep subscribers informed about seasonal offers, new product launches, and behind-the-scenes insights.

          The launch of a custom-built e-commerce website streamlined online transactions, improved customer convenience, and provided an engaging platform for showcasing Little Bread Loaf’s products. Our social media strategy not only built an engaged online community of over 6,000 followers but also drove significant traffic to the e-commerce store.
